With a new year in bloom, one must liven one’s vie quotidienne by celebrating la vie Parisienne! I admit that there is a lot of pressure living in Paris: one must always appear effortlessly chic, seemingly unwashed, and jaded. For the New Year, I thus resolve to only do as the Parisians do. How do I go about this? Well, first, in order to be a true Parisian in 2013, I must linger in the most fashionable cafés and smoke a dozen cigarettes before nibbling a king crab, avocado appetizer. By taking up a smoking habit I will become socially permissible and make for a great existential conversationalist on both the left and right banks.
Spending my days at either the Café de Flore or L’Avenue, I will examine what it means to be a true Parisian. This can only be done by close, scientific examination and I will require either binoculars or a pair of oversized Celine shades to complete my case study. Note to self, save up enough pennies to purchase trendy ensembles by consuming only lunch and a bottle of wine for dinner like a true Parisian. This will bring me one step closer in eliminating all my bad habits because embracing a French lifestyle is much more healthy and refined.
Using my superior gawking skills (an art that I have cultivated over the years) I will note that Parisian women look their best in black, basic, potato sack like garments; with a siren red color staining their perfectly plump Parisian pout. As a result, in 2013, I will update my look by buying Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon wearing it on my lips and on my teeth. I will wash my hair every two months to acquire that certain undefinable Parisian shine and take an appointment with the renowned Joëlle Ciocco for a facial every other month. Undoubtedly I will age like the great Catherine Deneuve and most probably will embark on a grand love affair with a handsome Italian actor.
I do not necessarily condone smoking or foregoing meals. I aim, however, to remind the reader of the divine clichés associated with the most glamorous city in the world. It is highly recommended that the reader define their unique resolutions by experiencing and creating a Parisian lifestyle of their own in 2013. Bonne année et bonne santé!
