The opulent Château de Versailles will set the stage for the Chanel Resort 2013 collection. Details are under wraps, however, we do know Karl Lagerfeld’s next grand performance will take place on Monday, May 14. The French royal family ruled Versailles for 100 years prior to the French Revolution— what a fitting venue, complete with excess and lavishness. Lagerfeld ensures his audiences are transported to a fantastical world at each show, and we are certain this will be no different. Past Chanel Resort shows took place along the fabulous French Riviera in such places as St. Tropez and Cannes. Check out some of Lagerfeld’s extravagant editorial shoots he has previously done at Versailles below.
This isn’t the first time fashions finest have used Versailles as the their back drop. John Galliano rented out the palatial palace in celebration of Dior’s 60th anniversary couture show. And one of the most memorable couturier crusades took place in 1973 when five American designers (Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, Anne Klein and Stephen Burrows) faced off against five French designers (Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Emanuel Ungaro and Pierre Cardin) in a runway extravaganza. This fashionable fight later became known as the ‘Battle of Versailles.’ Stay tuned; pictures from the show will be posted in mid-May.
