One would expect from Paris Haute Couture Week ultimate luxury, creativity and style; a few short days for designers to show off their very best, from long red-carpet worthy gowns to cocktail garments and outrageous accessories. Julien Fournie managed to get two parts right in his Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 collection; outrageousness and creativity.
This season he presented the collection at the Showcase night club in Paris, a very fitting venue for his line entitled “Premier Extase” (The First Ecstasy). Though extremely colorful and interesting, most of the clothing was short, even very short. Several models walking down the runway had to hold down a skirt so as not to reveal everything to the crowd. However, the raw sensuality of this collection was a nice diversion from the consistent “romantic, soft feminine” collections that are so overdone, but ‘extreme’ is definitely a word that comes to mind – whether that is good or bad isn’t exactly clear.
Fournier dazzled the audience with color, texture and innovation; the models walked the runway to a very visually appealing film co produced withThe First Hour. The technology further wowed the crowd with Fournier’s collaboration with FashionLab, a 3D product that allows designers to explore lines in full volume and visualize from every possible angle the design. However, not even the technology could take away from the night-club feel of many of the clothes.
Regardless, Fournie’s love of technology and sexuality was exhilarating, and we hope to see more designers incorporate similar effects to their shows. We are also excited to see what he does next season, because isn’t outrageousness and extremity the best way to alter current fashion trends?
