Ethereal yet provocative beings opened the Rick Owens S/S 2012 show adorned in long, slim column-like white ensembles. Passing through the glowing light that enclosed his runway, each piece was illuminated like a radiant sculpture. Sleek and seductive black silhouettes contrasted the celestial white brilliantly. A quiet elegance swept the runway as Owens explored simplicity, purity and darkness in his demure yet deliberate collection.
“Pillar” skirts, slender columns in white, black, clay and a terra cotta were the foundation of the line. Beautiful shapes and architectural structure were highlighted by the almost entirely monochromatic color scheme. Channeling 60’s Couture, broad tops, smock-like capes, bell shaped sleeves, closely cut shoulders and unique armholes graced the runway in matte fabrics. The finale showcased powerful patchwork jackets adding impact to the collection.
