Speculation and gossip have surrounded Dior since John Galliano’s departure; sadly many are caught up in the confusion of it all rather than the collection itself. Bill Gaytten, “acting” creative director, attempted to remind us at the Christian Dior A/W 2012 show; sending signature silhouettes down the runway such as cinched-waists, demure necklines and full skirts that evoked a refined simplicity. Inspired by a “ballet femininity,” silk tulle skirts emphasized the evening component of the collection. Knit skullcaps added a modern twist to the polished classics. It was a perfectly pretty collection, however Gaytten seemed to play-it-safe—I suppose uncertain times call for certainty in a collection.
