Jean Paul Gaultier took us for a wild ride through New York’s hip, trendy meatpacking district with his A/W 2012 collection. A silver foil backdrop and a graffiti-tagged invite set the urbane street style scene. Graffiti prints, spray-paint bubble letters and graphics such as car grilles and street signs aptly reading “Gaultier” created a metropolitan mélange of silhouettes. Leather jackets and corseted tees mixed with pencil skirts and fresh furs gave a grungy vibe to the gorgeous girls. Experimenting with extremes, he featured trenches that simultaneously doubled as a skirt and a coat. The collection was edgy; yet embraced Mr. Gaultier’s light-hearted, playful zest we all love.
